Attack on cop: Shibirman shot dead in Ctg

An activist of Islami Chhatra Shibir, student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, was shot dead and four others were injured during police firing in Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong on Saturday night.
The deceased was identified as Arif, son of M Joynal of Shekherhat area of the upazila while the injured were Sohel, 25, Rubel, 20, Nurul Hadis, 22, and Parvez.
The firing took place when Shibir men attacked a patrolling vehicle of police in Nunachara area of the upazila at the night. Police also detained four injured Shibir men following the attack.
District assistant superintendent of police (ASP) Saiful Islam confirmed the matter to this correspondent.
Saiful said a group of Shibir men, numbering about 10 to 12, gathered in Nunachara area and attacked a patrolling vehicle. Police retaliated with gunshots to foil the attack.
Later, police rescued five people who sustained bullet-wound from nearby bean field around 9:00pm and recovered a LG, three cartridges, two petrol bombs from their possession.
The injured were brought to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) around 11:30pm where on-duty doctor declared him dead.
