A leader of Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, was killed being run over by a truck while he allegedly tried to flee the custody of RAB in Chapainawabganj town.
The victim was identified as Asadullah Tuhin, 20, son of Emadul Haque, and also President of Islami Chhatra Shibir City College unit.
The incident took place when the members of RAB along with Tuhin were carrying out a drive to recover crude bombs from different parts of the city.
Shibir , however, claimed that he was pushed down under the running truck by the RAB men.
Besides, father of victim, Emadul Haque, alleged that RAB picked up his son Tuhin Monday noon when he was sleeping at his Charmohanpur home in Chapainawabganj municipality area. “We were totally in the dark about the reason behind Tuhin’s detention,” the father said.But refuting the allegation, RAB said that Tuhin died being hit by a speedy truck as he tried to escape the scene by jumping out the RAB car.
Major Md Kamruzzaman Pavel, Camp Commander of RAB-5, Chapainawabganj, said, “The RAB members picked up five Shibir activists including Tuhin around 4:00pm on Tuesday and seized 23 books on Jihad from their possession.”
He said, “Tuhin was involved with subversive activities and supplying crude bombs to his aides to carry out the anarchy. So, the RAB detained him. Following his confessional statement, the RAB members took him and conducted a drive in Ramchandrapur Haat area in Sadar upazila to recover hidden crude bombs.”
“At that time, a speeding truck knocked down him in Lalapara area while he was trying to flee, leaving him seriously injured,” he said.
RAB members took him to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Meanwhile, the Islami Chhatra Shibir has called 48-hour hartal from 6:00am on Wednesday in Rajshahi division following the death of Tuhin.
The hartal announcement was made on Tuesday noon through a press after an emergency meeting of regional leaders.
Shibir leaders also condemned the ‘incident of death’ terming it an extrajudicial killings.
