Chittagong police said that the Shibir has changed their strategy to conduct terror attack following the failure of their attack plan on oil depots and the Chittagong Port.
The police have got the above information after interrogating the Shibir leaders those were arrested on Friday night in connection with arson attack plan.
Police said Shibir is now giving postings of district leaders at different important and strategic points of Chittagong city. The Shibir wants to execute their destructive mission by reshuffling the portfolios.
The arrested prime suspect Fazlur Rahman Rubel, son of Mostafizur Rahman, hailed from Charhazari village under Comapanyganj in Noakhali district. He is a student of Sitakunda campus of International Islamic University, the police said.
OC Mohiuddin Selim said: “Rubel has been made president of Shibir Patenga unit, though he was never involved in politics. He was brought in Patenga as part of executing the agenda when Shibir had planned to collapse Chittagong Port and blast three oil depots.”
Earlier, the police arrested central social welfare secretary of Shibir was arrested by police on February 20 soon after he landed in Chittagong. He gave a confessional statement before the court after five-day police remand.
According to the statement, Enamul came to Chittagong with a mission being instructed by central president of Shibir to blow up Padma, Jamuna and Meghna oil depots along with a view to paralizing the Chittagong Port. He also planned to involve local Jamaat MP Shahjahan Chowdhury with the plot. But the plan was foiled when Enamul was caught by police.
Police said Enamul has named 15 Shibir men of Chittagong South with the incident of terror plot. Some of them are students of Chittagong College, some of Mohsin College and some came from Chittagong University or International Islamic University. Of them, one [Rubel] was arrested while the police have been hunting for the rest 14.
