UNB, Dhaka: Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, called a 24-hr countrywide hartal for Sunday protesting the killing and arrest of it leaders and activists. Shibir president Abdul Jabbar announced the shutdown through a press statement on Friday. The shutdown will begin at 6 am Sunday and end at 6 am Monday. They will also stage demonstration across the country on Saturday in protest against what they said killing, forced disappearance, mass arrest and repression on their leaders and activists. In the statement, they claimed that the law-enforcers shot 7 of their leaders and activists to death and wounded over 100 others with bullets during the last one month. Meanwhile Rajshahi unit Chhatra Shibir called a 48-hour hartal in eight districts of Rajshahi division from Sunday protesting what they said the killing of a leader of its Rajshahi University unit by police. The shutdown was announced after a leader of Islami Chhatra Shibir of Rajshahi University unit was killed and two others sustained bullet wounds in a ‘shootout’ with police at Katakhali in the city early Friday.
