Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e Islami, has called a two-day strike at Rajshahi University (RU) from today [Wednesday] demanding realization of its six points, and protesting death of one of its its leader in a “shootout” with law enforcers.
The demands include recovery of illegal firearms and to bring the culprits to justice, to rehabilitate legal students ousting outsiders who have no legal allotment in halls, to ensure co-existence of all students bodies on campus, to ensure security of the general students and opening
of all dining halls and canteens immediately for the students.
The organisation announced the strike yesterday (Tuesday) through a press release signed by Shibir RU unit President Ashraful Alam Emon. The unit’s Information and Technology Affairs Secretary Sahabuddin Ripon was killed in an “encounter” with police on February 6.
The release also claimed that after arresting two other RU unit Shibir leaders Habibur Rahman and Mofizur Rahman, Police tortured them in custody. They demanded punishment to the Police officer responsible for death.
