‘Shesher Kabita’ staged at BUBT

Students of the Department of English of Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) performed the dramatic version of Shesher Kabita, a much-acclaimed romantic novel of Rabindranath Tagore, at the Hall Room of the University Permanent Campus, Rupnagar in the Capital on Wednesday evening. The play was directed by Kazal Kumar Das, Lecturer in English. He was also the script writer and music director of the play.
Shesher Kobita is a much popular fiction by Tagore, widely termed a landmark in the realm of romantic Bangla literature, published in 1929. Mehnaz Mehrima, Student of intake 37 of the Department, acted as Labanya while the role of Amit was played by Sayeem Haque, a student of intake 43. Apart from the protagonists, other performers were Ahmed Sajjad, Hafiz Sarkar, Alifa Sharif, Irfan Ataullah, Rouda Aurthy, Sumaiya, Pritu and Ashik. There were three major roles in the play- Jogomaya, ketuki and Shovonlal. These roles were played by Fatema Tuz Zohora, Sidratul Muntaha Shammi and Nahid Hossain Alif of intake 37, 36 and 45 respectively of the same department.
Dances and songs from Rabindranath Tagore and our National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam also were performed by the students in the Cultural Evening. Prof Md. Abu Saleh, Vice Chancellor of the university was present on the occasion. Prof Syed Anwarul Huq, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Humanities welcomed the guests and spoke on the great significance of Tagore and Nazrul in our national life.
Prof Mian Lutfar Rahman, Advisor, Students’ Affairs and Mohammad Shawkat Ali, Chairman, Dept of English also spoke on the occasion. Distinguished Guests, Prof Santi Narayan Ghosh, Director of IQAC- BUBT, Prof Dr Mohammed Rubaiyat Chowdhury, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Engr M Azharul Huq, Chairman, EEE, Wing Commander Md. Momenul Islam (Retd.), Proctor, BUBT, teachers and students of English were present in the program.
Mr Md. Solaiman Alam, Lecturer in English directed lighting and camera. BUBT Cultural Club aided the function and the whole program was coordinated by Md. Abdullah Al Azad, Assistant Professor of English, BUBT.
