A septuagenarian man was beaten to death during a clash between two groups of villagers over a land related dispute at Dashkahnia village in Sadar upazila on Saturday evening.
Officer-in-charge Sherpur Sadar Police Station M Nazrul Islam said the deceased Abdul Jalil, 70, a resident of Dashkahnia village and a retired school teacher, had been at loggerheads with one Lutfar Rahman, another resident of the village, over the ownership of a piece of land.
Jalil, along with his supporters, locked in a clash with Lutfur’s followers on Saturday evening over the issue.
At one stage, Lutfar’s followers swooped on Jalil and beat him indiscriminately around 6:30pm, leaving the retired school teacher injured severely.
Later, he was taken to Sherpur Zila Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
