Women entrepreneur and social worker Shelina Akhter got Ashoka Fellowship-2015 for her contribution to the welfare of elderly people for long.
She has been working for the welfare of elderly people through “Subarta Prabin Seba Kendra”, a specialized service oriented welfare organization for the country’s senior citizens, said a press release.
A number of old age homes are now being run by the organization in and outside of the capital city.
A multistoried building is being constructed in Singair of Manikganj district for the elderly people by the organization. The activities of the “Sbarta Trust” is now being appreciated both home and abord.
In her reaction, Shelina Akhter said, “Subarta Trust is conducting different sorts of activities for raising social dignity and ensure sound and peaceful life of the distressed elderly people.”
She also got first Bangladesh Business Award in 2000, launched by the Daily Star and DHL, as women entrepreneur for her contribution in the country’s economy.
