Today is the 50th birth anniversary of Sheikh Russel, youngest son of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, says a press release.
Russel, also brother of Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina, was killed along with his father and most other family members on August 15, 1975 when he was a student of class IV at University Laboratory School.
On the occasion, Awami League [AL], Sheikh Russel Jatiya Shishu Kishore Parishad, and Sheikh Russel Shishu Sangsad have chalked out elaborate programmes separately to observe the day with due respect.
They will place floral wreaths at Russel’s grave at Banani Graveyard, organise milad and doa mahfils, offer prayers, and hold discussions.
Sheikh Russel Jatiya Shishu Kishore Parishad will also organise a discussion National Sports Council Auditorium at 10:00am where Minister for Relief and Disaster Management Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya will join as the chief guest.
Besides, the associate bodies of AL will also organise various programmes in the capital and other places across the country to mark the day.
Sheikh Russel Jatiya Shishu Kishore Parishad will also organise a discussion and prize distribution programme among meritorious students who successfully passed Secondary School Certificate [SSC] examination and winners of a drawing competition at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre at 10:00am on October 21.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina likely to join the function as the chief guest.
