The 50th birth anniversary of Sheikh Russell, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was observed on Saturday with various programmes.
Leaders and activists of Awami League and its front organisations placed wreaths at the grave of Sheikh Russell at Banani graveyard in the morning.
Awami Swechhasebak League (ASL) organised a discussion at Dhanmondi-32. Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif was present as the chief guest.
Dhaka City Awami League organised a milad and doa mahfil after Asr prayers at its office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city.
On October 18, 1964, Sheikh Russell, was born at Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi in Dhaka.
Minor boy Russell along with Bangabandhu and most of his family members was assassinated at their Dhanmondi, Road- 32 residence on the fateful night of August 15 in 1975, when he was a class IV student of Dhaka University Laboratory School.
