Feroza Begum Chinu, member of the Parliamentary Committee on Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, said that the present government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is committed in overall development of the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
“The progress in each sector in the last two terms of this government has not happened earlier,” she said. She said this while speaking as a chief guest at the opening ceremony of the Sheikh Russell Memorial Library at Bhedvedi area in the district town on Thursday.
Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board has implemented the construction work of this library at a cost of Tk 17 lakh.
Rangamati Zila Parishad Members Sadhan Moni Chakma and Sabir Chakma, executive engineer of CHT Development Board Mujibul Haque, also spoke.
Two held with Yaba pills in juice bottle : Police arrested two men after recovering 5,000 Yaba pills from a juice bottle in Amanath Shah Bridge area under Bakolia Police Station early on Saturday.
On a tip-off, Bakolia police checked a Dhaka-bound bus of Ena Transport and recovered the contraband pills, worth Tk 17.50 lakh, from a mango juice bottle, said police.
Later, they arrested Md Sagor, 27, the bus driver, and his helper Ruhul Amin, 54.
