Sheikh Russel KC earned their 3rd consecutive victory in the KFC Independence Cup Football Tournament beating Rahmatganj MFS by 2-1 goals in a Group B match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Monday.
With the day’s feat, Sheikh Russel KC topped the group list securing full nine points from straight three matches following their 2-1 victory over Arambagh KS and 3-2 win over Team BJMC while Rahmatganj remained at three points, playing three matches.
Ethiopian forward Fikru Teferra and Cameroon striker Paul Emile scored one each for the winners, both in the first half, while Rashed Turjo netted the lone goal for Rahmatganj MFS in the 2nd half.
Fikru Teferra put Sheikh Russel ahead in the very 5th minute of the match by flying header off curved cross of captain Atikuzzaman Meshu from the left flank (1-0).
Cameroonian forward Paul Emile doubled the Sheikh Russel margin in the 15th minute by a cracking right footer off Jahid Hasan Emily’s back pass from the left flank (2-0).
In the 32nd minute, Rahmatganj made a good chance, but Russel goalie Mahmud Liton punched away a Mehbub Hasan Nayo sudden shot from about 25 yards at the cost of a corner.
Substitute forward Rashed Turjo reduced the Rahmatganj margin in the 85th minute by a placing shot, capitalising on a cross of midfielder Mohamad Sohel from the right (2-1).
