Naogaon-6 constituency is comprised of Raninagar and Atrai Upazilas of Naogaon district. Most of the nomination aspirants in the constituency are from two big political parties-Awami League and BNP. They started campaigning through exchanging welcome with poster and banner last couple of days.
Speculation has begun among people of all walks of Raninagar and Atrai as Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Rafiq, fellow of Shaheed Sheikh Kamal, son of thousands of years’ greatest Bengali Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He started his election campaign recently.
In his constituency Raninagar-Atrai through a showdown with around 350 motorcycles, 50 microbuses, 40/50 steering bhutbhuti. Different professions’ people and local leaders and activists got inspiration newly in arrival of martyr Sheikh Kamal’s peer. Seeing politeness and cordial behavior of Sheikh Rafiqul Islam, renowned businessman and political personality, many people think he is a man of trust.
Awami League nomination aspirants said, Awami League government is a role model of Bangladesh development. So there is no alternative but Awami League to turn Bangladesh into a middle income country.
The government has made example of country’s development through different works including education, treatment, electricity, road, bridge and Padma bridge construction.
On the other hand, BNP nomination aspirants told this correspondent that they are focusing the irregularities, corruption, oppression of ruling party Awami League to the people. Alongside they assure restoration of people’s voting right and democracy and actual service to people through holding a free, fair and neutral election. And they also campaign to people with the party chief Begum Khaleda Zia announced Vision-2030.
In the 11th general election, the nomination aspirants of Awami League for 51 Naogaon-6 (Atrai-Raninagar) constituency are district Awami League Joint Secretary and current MP Israfil Alam, Martyr Sheikh Kamal’s peer Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Rafiq, Rajshahi City Awami League’s vice president freedom fighter Nawsher Ali, former upazila parishad chairman Anwar Hossain Helal and Central Krishak League advisory committee member former parliament member and freedom fighter Ohidur Rahman’s son district Awami League Swechchhasebok League’s General Secretary and young leader Adv Omar Faruque Sumon.
From BNP, the party’s central committee member Anwar HossainBulu, district BNP joint general secretary and district Swechchhasebok Dal president and former UP chairman Aminul Islam Belal and district BNP vice president Sirazul Islam Siraz are in the race. Elsewhere Atrai Upazila Jatiya Party president Mofazzal Hossain and Raninagar upazila Jatiya Party president Kazi Golam Kabir are trying to get nomination from Jatiya Party.
Sources said, Israfil Alam MP should play vital role in local development, evaluate sacrificed leaders and activists, and assist different works of party, and protest irregularities and corruption.
It is found in its query that Naogaon-6 constituency was in possession of BNP in 79, 91, 96, and 2001.BNP candidate late Chowdhury Motaher Hossain MP became elected from the constituency in 79. Freedom fighter Ohidur Rahman was elected as independent MP in 86. Jatiya Party’s Rezaul Islam or Reza Molla was elected MP in 88.
BNP’s former state minister Alamgir Kabir was elected MP from 91 tp 2001 in the constituency. Awami League candidate and Dhaka City unit of Shramik League general secretary Israfil Alam was elected MP in 2008 election in the constituency. BNP candidate Anwar Hossain Bulu was defeated in the polls. Israfil Alam was reelected without competition.
Social analysts said local people have learnt somewhat. People deserve proper leadership with experience of success and failure. People of all walks are now careful about different political parties, including Awami League, BNP and Jatiya Party, leaders and activists’ grabbing, tendering, establishing supremacy, extortion, and becoming owner of illegal asset.
On the other hand, now the question is the nomination seekers whether can retain their image like previous time, protest all injustice and develop local area with experience.
