Sheikh Kamal’s 67th birthday today

The 67th birthday of Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, will be observed today.
Born on August 5, 1949 at Tungipara in Gopalganj, Sheikh Kamal, a former executive member of the central committee of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), student wing of Bangladesh Awami League, was an executive member of Jatiya Chhatra League, student wing of Bangladesh Krishak Sramik Awami Leauge (BKSAL).
Awami League General Secretary and Public Administration Minister Syed Ashraful Islam in a statement on Thursday urged leaders, workers and supporters of the party and associate organizations to observe Sheikh Kamal’s birthday in a befitting manner.
Besides Awami league, different political socio-cultural and sports organizations have taken up various programmes marking the day.
The programmes include placing of wreaths at the portrait of Sheikh Kamal and recitation from the Holy Quran, milad-mahfil and offering doa at Banani graveyard and discussions.
The AL and its associate bodies will pay tribute to Sheikh Kamal by placing wreaths at his portrait at Dhanmondi Abahani Club premises at 8am and later at his grave in the Banani Graveyard at 9 am.
A doa mahfil will be held at the graveyard seeking eternal peace of the departed soul of Sheikh Kamal and other family members including Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who were assassinated by a group of disgruntled army personnel on August 15, 1975.
Besides, Awami Swechachasebok League, Jubo League and Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote also have taken various programmes to observe the day.
Awami Swechchhasebok League will hold discussion, milad and doa-mahfil at
Bangabandhu Bhaban at 11 am on the day.
Juba League will organize a discussion and photo exhibition at Shilpakala
Academy at 10 am.
Abahani Supporters Gosthi is scheduled to place wreaths at the portrait of
the club’s founder Sheikh Kamal on Abahani Club premises at 12.01 am today.
A discussion will also be held at the club at 4pm today.
Sheikh Kamal was well-trained on war-course and he got commission before
taking part in Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971.
