Sheikh Jasim is a top class classical singer of the country. He is also a noted music composer. Ghazal is a part of classical music. So, Jasim proved his outstanding skill to present Ghazal performances. But Jasim could not become a successful Ghazal singer easily. He had to struggle to come into present position. He knew that
without struggle nobody shines in music. During childhood, he had fascination about music. His family had an attachment with music. In music, his father got attachment of Ustad Alauddin Khan. His elder brother Jahangir Alam received training in music from noted Nazrul researcher Abdus Sattar. Basically Jasim got
primary lessons in music from his elder brother Jahangir. He secured first position in folk song at the national music competition organised by then Red Cross when he was studying in Siddeshwari Boys High School in Moghbazar. His mother delighted for his son’s success and she bought a harmonium for Jasim worth of Tk 240. Then Jasim’s interest increased about music. He learned classical music from Ustad Mofizul Islam, Ustad Phul Mohammed, Ustad Akhtar Sadmani, in Nazrul songs from Sheikh Lutfor Rahman, Sudhin Das, Sohrab Hossain, Abdul Latif in then in classical music from Jogonanondo Barua and Ustad Sagir Uddin Khan. Then he also learned Lalon songs from Khoda Box Saiji for one year.
In the beginning of 90s, Jasim lent his voice for 10 Ghazal and 12 semi
classical songs. Many noted singers like Andrew Kishore, Kumar Bishwajit, Tapan Chowdhury, Baby Naznin, Samina Chowdhury, Momtaz, Asif Akbar, among others also lent their voices under the composition of Jasim and those received appreciation by the music-lovers.
While talking about his activities in music Sheikh Jasim said, “At the end of 2019, I found many singers wanted to render songs under my composition. So, I started music composition professionally. Some singers of this generation have already showed their keen interest to render songs under my composition. In fact, except music, I wanted to do many things but couldn’t do. So, I have nothing to think except music now.”
