Bangladesh Premier League Champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club reached the semifinal of the KFC Independence Cup Football from Group A beating Muktijoddha Sangsad KC by 3-1 goals at the Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Tuesday.
With the day’s feat, Sheikh Jamal DC maintained their all win record in the season’s first meet securing full 12 points from straight four matches while Muktijoddha SKC remained at nine points playing all the five group encounters.
In the day’s vital match, Nigerian forward Emeka Darlington, Gambian midfielder Landing Darboe and Haitian forward Wedson Anselme scored one each for Sheikh Jamal while midfielder Mobarak Hossain netted the lone goal for the freedom fighter team.
Emeka Darlington opened the Sheikh Jamal account in the 13th minute by tapping the ball home off Anisur Alam cross from left flank which came his way by back pass off Wedson Anselme (1-0).
Landing Darboe doubled the Sheikh Jamal margin in the 44th minute by an angular shot after beating Muktijoddha goalie Mamun Khan, utilising a through pass of Haitian forward Wedson Anselme.
Wedson Aneselme further widened the margin in the injury time of the first half by a powerful shot from the top of the box, capitalising on a Landing.Darboe pass (3-0).
The freedom fighter team Muktijoddha SKC pulled the margin one back in the 49th minute from a penalty.
Mukti forward Towhid Alam was brought down by Sheikh Jamal defender Anisur Alam Sweet in the danger zone and referee pointed his finger for a spot kick. Midfielder Mobarak Hossain did no mistake to convert the penalty (3-1).
Earlier in the 20th minute of the match, Sheikh Jamal forward Shihab made a good attempt towards the target but Muktijoddha custodian Mamun Khan saved his castle by punching the ball wide at the cost of a corner.
Muktijoddha SKC were most unfortunate in the 55th minute as a 20 yarder shot of their Nigerian forward Kolo Musa hit the crosspiece.
In the 68th minute, Muktijoddha forward Towhidul Alam saw his shot from top of the box was fisted over by Jamal goalie Mazharul Islam Himel for a corner.
