Sheikh Hasina Dharala Bridge opens

The second Dharla Bridge, ‘Sheikh Hasina Dharala Bridge’ over the Dharla river in Kurigram district was opened formally yesterday through video conference from Gano Bhaban by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said Kurigram Deputy Commissioner Most Sultana Pervin.
The video conference was held near the Eastside of the bridge at 10:00 pm on the day. Works of the bridge were started on April 24, 2014 by Simplex-Navana JV (joint venture) constructions of Dhaka while Kurigram LGED department implemented it.
The 950-meter long bridge over the Dharla River has been constructed on Nageswari-Kashipur-Phulbari-Kulaghat-Lalmonirhat road at Kabir Mamud village under Phulbari upazila of Kurigram district at cost of Taka 188 crore and 17 lakh.Md. Sharifuzzaman,Senior Assistant Engineer of LGED in Kurigram told The New Nation that for the development of communication and socio-economic states of people of 30 unions and one municipality Nageswary under three upazilas of the district.Wide of the 950-meter-long bridge is 9.8 meter.
Number of guarder and span of the bridge is 95 and 19 spans accordingly. Its sides approached roads are 2.919-km while river training has been completed in the 3.494-km areas,” said Sharifuzzaman.
 At least ten lakh people of Bhurungamari, Nageswari and Phulbari upazilas are waiting for properly using the dream-bridge while about 50 kilometre of road will be off to come to Rangpur city or Dhaka city .
