A court of Dhaka on Thursday placed BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s Adviser and journalists’ leader Shawkat Mahmud on a one-day fresh remand in a case filed with Lalbagh Police Station.
Magistrate Mohammad Tarek Mainul Islam Bhuiyan of the CMM Court of Dhaka put Shawkat on one-day remand after Officer-in-Charge Md Moniruzzaman of Lalbagh Police Station and Investigation Officer of the case, produced him in the court with a seven-day remand plea. The court also rejected a bail petition filed on behalf of Shawkat Mahmud.
On August 24, the court placed the journalist leader on a four-day remand in four cases filed with Paltan and Motijheel police stations.
On August 19, the court placed Shawkat Mahmud on a three-day remand after his arrest from in front of Samurai Convention Centre in the city’s Panthapath area on August 18.
Before that, on January 23, a group of miscreants set a bus on fire hurling petrol bomb in front of Home Economics College in Azimpur area and obstructed the police while they were performing their duty. A case was filed with Lalbagh Police Station in this connection on the day.
