UNB Shariatpur :
A tiny piece of land inherited from her father has turned out to be a curse for 40-year-old spinster Aseda Khatun Bina of Daser Jangal village in Gosairhat upazila.
A section among her neighbours has stigmatised her as a ‘wicked woman’ after having failed to grab the land with support from local police, alleges Bina.
As she sought justice, some police officials had also labeled her ‘wicked’ and mercilessly beat her and her sister Rahima Khatun, she added.
According to Daser Jongol Mouza’s ledger no. 1857, the 83 decimal land falling on the lines 496, 500, 501, 503, 506, 495 and 496 belonged to late Akkel Ali Ghorami, who gave it to his daughter Bina, who looked after her parents in their later years.
Bina even refused to get married giving priority to the wellbeing of her parents.
After the death of her parents, local influential, including Kader Khan, Alauddin Khan and others, began mounting pressure on Bina to abandon her home.
Unfortunately, when Bina went to Gosairhat Police Station to lodge a complaint in this connection, the officer-in-charge allegedly called her a ‘wicked woman’ and beat her.
As her sister Rahima Khatun came up to her aid, she also reportedly faced the assault, leading to a fracture in one of her hands.
When the two sisters went to the police superintendent to seek justice, he told them that the OC had informed him negatively about them.
Contacted, members of Kader Khan’s family denied the allegations against them, saying that Bina is a troublemaker.
