Share transaction marks sharp rise

Stocks regained Tuesday as share transaction rose sharply on some positive news on the economic front. Among the news was the World Bank’s commitment of higher assistance to Bangladesh.
The daily trade volume at Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) jumped to 20.70 crore shares from Monday’s 16.19 crore when the value surged to Taka 571.59 crore from Taka 456.71 crore of the previous day.
The higher activities pushed share prices across the board, with bringing the indices to the green zone.
DSEX, the broader DSE index, recovered by 18.91 points to cross 4700-point mark to finish at 4711.85 when the blue-chip DS30 and Shariah DSES gained marginally to end positive at 1755.15 and 1117.84 accordingly.
Out of the day’s 323 issues traded, 177 securities finished higher when 98 incurred loss. Similarly, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day with adding over 76 points to its major index that ended at 14446.78.
Majority of the issues traded on CSE also finished higher. Among the day’s 253 securities, 142 closed higher and 75 lower. Some 1.39 crore shares changed hands on the day for Taka 31.66 crore.
The day’s major gaining securities were YPL, Standard Insurance, Paramount, ITC and Standard Ceramic. The losers were Modern Dyeing, Daffodil Computer, GHCL, Monno Stafflers and Beximco Pharma.
