Awamy League has again selected Dr Salina Hayat Ivy as mayor candidate for Narayangonj City Corporation (NCC) polls. She said my people had never accepted terrorist, godfather, extortionist and killer. It had been proved again and again in Narayangonj City Corporation polls. People of Narayangonj never welcome a disturbed person and will never support. She said it to a group of journalists while campaigning in the City’s Bandar on Sunday.
Over the issue of branding Shamim Osman as godfather, Ivy said, I did not give title ‘godfather’ to him. He carried it for last 30 years. The people of the entire nation have known it, not only Narayangonj people.
She said I tried to respect my elder brother (Shamim Osman) for several times but he refused me. He has always made conspiracy against me, but was not successful. Common people of Narayangonj remained always with me and I will again win, InsAllah.
When asked that Shamim Osman will support her, Ivy replied it’s up to him. What Narayangonj people will do on 16 January, I will accept that.
On the other hand, Independent candidate Taimur Alam Khandaker has claimed that law enforce agencies have attacked his supporters’ residences so that they give up campaign.
He made the allegation during the campaign in the City’s Khanpur area on Sunday.
Later during the press conference, Taimur raised complaints against the government and their administration accusing them of afflicting the people of Narayanganj for years. He said, “Awami League has been ruling Narayanganj for 18 years, but couldn’t give them anything other than sufferings.”
Taimur accused the government of misusing power, breaking laws and intimidating people.
The former convener of BNP’s Narayanganj Unit also said that his statements could not be refuted for he was speaking on behalf of the people.
He reasserted his position in the ongoing city polls saying, if he’s elected, he will respect the people of Narayanganj and ensure good governance by formulating a “grand master-plan” keeping the next 100 years in mind. He will prioritise education, health and employment, especially for the underprivileged and low-income families.
Earlier on 3 January, BNP removed Taimur Alam Khandakar from the post of party Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s advisor for his decision to participate in the Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) polls.
A letter signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi was issued to this effect.
Taimur was striped of his post in Narayanganj district BNP for submitting a nomination paper for the election.
“BNP is not participating in any national or local elections under this government. Taimur Alam has become an independent candidate using party posts. This withdrawal order is the proof that BNP is not participating in the election,” BNP Organising Secretary Abdus Salam said.
