National cricketer Shakib Al Hasan and his wife Umme Ahmed Shishir luckily escaped a possible tragedy as the helicopter that dropped the couple at Inani beach in Ukhiya upazila crashed during its return journey on Friday.
The helicopter crashed near Rizu Khal in Ukhiya upazila around 10:15 am leaving a man dead and three others injured.
Arif, sub-inspector of Inani police camp, said the accident took place due to technical glitch as the helicopter was returning to the capital after dropping Shakib and Shishir at the helipad of Royal Tulip Hotel in Inani in the morning.
The couple arrived here for shooting for an advertising agency, he said.
Ferdous Ali, additional superintendent of police, Cox’s Bazar, said the helicopter carrying four people, including the pilot, crashed into Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive road near Rizu Khal, leaving all the four injured.
The injured were rushed to Sadar Hospital where doctors declared one of them dead.
The deceased was identified as Shah Alam, 32, a resident of Dhaka city.
