Shakib named Test Captain of Bangladesh

Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been named Captain of Bangladesh Test Cricket team. In-form batter Litton Das will act as his Deputy. Shakib Al Hasan was appointed as the Captain by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Thursday.
Earlier, top-order batter Mominul Haque resigned as the captain of Bangladesh Test Cricket team.
It may be mentioned that Shakib Al Hasan was suspended for one year by International Cricket Council (ICC) in the year of 2019. Before suspension, he acted as the Captain of Bangladesh Test Cricket team. As he was banned by ICC (the highest governing body of world cricket), the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) appointed Mominul Haque as the Captain of Bangladesh Test Cricket team.
After the meeting of Board of Directors of the BCB, President of BCB Nazmul Hassan Papon confirmed this matter to the journalists on Thursday.
After appointment of Shakib Al Hasan, the left-arm all-rounder’s first assignment is the two-Test match against West Indies. The first Test match between Bangladesh and West Indies will be held from June 16 in the Caribbean Island.
Nazmul Hassan Papon said, ” There were three candidates for the post of Captain of Bangladesh Test Cricket team. After discussion, we have finally chosen the name of Shakib Al Hasan. Shakib will act as the Captain of the two-Test match between West Indies and Bangladesh in the Caribbean Island. After watching his performance as a Captain, we shall finally announce the time of his appointment as the Captain of Bangladesh Test Cricket team.”
It is noteworthy that after Shakib’s suspension, the BCB suddenly appointed Mominul Haque as the Captain of Bangladesh Test Cricket team. But Mominul Haque failed to show a good performance as a batter and also he failed to lead his side up to the mark. So, there was question arisen about his captaincy. So, Mominul Haque resigned from his post recentluy.
This is for the third time Shakib Al Hasan has been named Captain of Bangladesh Cricket team. In 2009, Captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza was ruled out due to injury before the Test series between Bangladesh and West Indies. Then, Shakib Al Hasan was appointed Captain of Bangladesh Test Cricket team. Bangladesh team won one Test match out of nine Test matches. He led Bangladesh Test Cricket team for almost one year. Then, Bangladesh lost to Zimbabwe in the Test series in 2011. So, Shakib was stepped down from captaincy.
Shakib Al Hasan was again got appointment as Test Captain of Bangladesh Test Cricket team in 2017. Bangladesh won Test series against West Indies under his captaincy but Bangladesh lost to newcomers Afghanistan in one-of Test match. Later, he was banned by ICC for breaching code of conduct of ICC.
Bangladesh played 14 Test matches under the captaincy of Shakib Al Hasan. Bangladesh won three Test matches, while tasted defeat in 11 Test matches.
On the other hand, Bangladesh played 17 Test matches under the captaincy of Mominul Haque. Bangladesh won three Test matches and suffered defeat in 11 Test matches and rest of the two matches ended in draw. But Bangladesh earned a heroic win in a Test match in New Zealand under the captaincy of Mominul Haque.
