Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman and his wife returned to Dhaka, the capital city of the country on Thursday from India. The left-arm all-rounder, the left-arm pacer and his wife arrived at the Hazrat Shahjajal International Airport using a special chartered flight on Thursday afternoon. Shakib will have to take 14-day quarantine at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel in the city’s Gulshan, while Mustafiz and his wife have to take a 14-day quarantine at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the city’s Karwan Bazar.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) was postponed on Tuesday last due to coronavirus outbreak in India. Shakib Al Hasan played for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL, while Mustafizur Rahman played for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in IPL. Bangladesh Government did not allow any normal aeroplane to arrive Bangladesh from India due to deadly outbreak of coronavirus in India. So, Shakib, Mustafiz and his wife arrived in Dhaka by a chartered aeroplane.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Nizamuddin Chowdhury Sujan confirmed the arrival of Shakib and Mustafiz in the city yesterday.
Sujan also informed that BCB monitored all the matters and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), governing body of IPL, KKR and RR gave all sorts of cooperation to arrange the chartered plane for Shakib and Mustafiz and his wife.
If Shakib and Mustafiz could not reach Thursday last it will be tough task for them to take part in the first One Day International (ODI) against Sri Lanka. The first ODI between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka is scheduled to be held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on May 23. So, after ending the quarantine period Shakib and Mustafiz will participate in the training sessions and they will play in the first ODI against Sri Lanka.
