BSS, Dhaka :
The highest fifth-wicket stand of 359 runs partnership in Test cricket between Shakib Al Hasan and skipper Mushfiqur Rahim established the highest wicket partnership for Bangladesh for any wicket steered to take control on the second day scoring score of 542 for 7 against New Zealand in the first Test at Wellington on Friday.
The previous highest was Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes’s opening stand of 312 against Pakistan at home in April 2015. This was also fourth highest partnership for the fifth-wicket in Tests.
This is the highest partnership for Bangladesh in New Zealand going past the 350 runs added by Pakistan’s Asif Iqbal and Mushtaq Mohammad in 1973.
The ace allrounder Shakib and skipper Mushfiqur’s 359-run fifth-wicket stand is the highest for that wicket in Tests in New Zealand, beating the previous highest between Nathan Astle and Craig McMillan against Zimbabwe in the Boxing Day Test of 2000.
Shakib also scored the highest individual score for Bangladesh with 217 runs. He went past the 206 scored by his fellow mate Tamim Iqbal against Pakistan in 2015. Earlier, Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim are the two others to have achieved the feat.
