President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Nazmul Hassan Papon said, ” Captain of Bangladesh T20 Cricket team Shakib Al Hasan may open the innings in the upcoming Asia Cup if he wants. Everything will be decided by Shakib. If Shakib is confident to open the innings, he can do. There are many options and Shakib will decide who will open the innings of Bangladesh against their opponents.”
There is a rumour before the ensuing Asia Cup, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Mahedi Hasan or Mehidy Hasan Miraz may open the innings of Bangladesh. That means the makeshift openers will open for Bangladesh.
Members of Bangladesh Cricket team took part in their optional practice session at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in the city’s Mirpur on Thursday.
After watching their batting practice it seemed that Mushfiqur Rahim is considered as the alternative opener.
BCB President Nazmul Hassan Papon went to the SBNCS on Thursday to watch the practice of Bangladeshi cricketers and discuss with players.
Papon said, ” My first choice of the opener of Bangladesh Cricket team is Anamul Haque. Bangladesh’s best opening pair is Tamim Iqbal-Litton Das duo. But they are not available for Asia Cup. We have Anamul Haque. Earlier, we tried using Munim Shahriar and Parvez Hossain Emon as openers. But we have to give them enough time. Mahedi Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz also act as openers in domestic cricket competitions. Mushfiqur Rahim can also open the innings. Everything depends on the situation.”
He said, ” We have to think where the match is held and which is the opponent team. We have to consider who bowl and which openers of our team will execute well against the bowler.”
