President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Nazmul Hassan Papon said, ” Shakib Al Hasan has capability to lead in three formats (Test, ODI, T20I) of cricket of Bangladesh team.”
Dashing opener Tamim Iqbal is the Captain of Bangladesh Cricket (ODI) team, while Mominul Haque is the Captain of Bangladesh Cricket (Test) team and Mahmudullah Riyad is the Captain of Bangladesh Cricket (T20I) team.
Papon said, ” Shakib Al Hasan can be Captain of all three formats of Bangladesh Cricket team. But we don’t think that Shakib will lead Bangladesh team in all three formats.”
The BCB boss said, ” I personally think that different parsons will lead the different formats of Bangladesh team. I also think that it will be very applicable if we have three teams of different players. At least it will be very helpful if we have four or five specialist players for the different teams. Specially, for Test and T20I teams. So, I think the Test team and T20I team will have different captains.”
He said, ” We shall try to give captaincy for a player for long time. As an example, we have appointed Tamim Iqbal as a Captain for long time. If we change the Captain for a short period, most of the cricketers will not be interested to take that post. Somebody feel uneasy to take that post. Besides, a cricketer can think that he did not get enough time to prove himself. So, we think to appoint a cricketer as Captain for long term.”
