Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan marked his Test return in some style as he struck a half-century to lead Bangladesh
to a strong position against West Indies at lunch on the second day of the opening Test on Thursday.

Shakib, playing his first Test since September 2019 following a two-year ban – one year suspended – by the International Cricket Council in October 2019 for failing to report approaches from a bookmaker, scored 68 to help
Bangladesh reach 328-7.

The premier all-rounder helped Bangladesh take the upper-hand by sharing a 67-run with Mehidy Hasan, when it looked the match titled towards West Indies.

Bangladesh lost Liton Das early in the second day morning after resuming the innings on 242-5.

Liton added just four runs to his overnight 34 to be out on 38 as tried to cut a delivery from left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican to point.

With 248-6, Bangladesh could have lost the ground but Shakib resisted and brought up his 25th fifty, nudging one of Warrican for a single.

He dealt with the West Indies disciplined spinners patiently and kept Bangladesh rolling on a slow pitch.

Off-spinner Rakheem Cornwall was finally rewarded for his consistency, baffling Shakib by the extra bounce. Before being out Shakib played 150 balls and clobbered five boundaries for his 68.

Mehidy Hasan however set him well in the crease and was batting on 46,with Taijul Islam on 5.
