Bangladesh’s pride all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and Chris Gayle rocked in the 15th match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) with 6th wicket stand of unbeaten 87 that spurred Jamaica Tallawahs for a 5-wicket win against Guyana Amazon Warriors at Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica on Saturday (Bangladesh time).
Shakib hammered his maiden CPL half century collecting a brilliant 54 off 47 that witnessed seven boundaries. With ball, he took one wicket for 20 runs in two overs.
Skipper Gayle drew the winning line for his side firing a six in the 15.5 overs off an Ali Khan bowling. Gayle struck not out 45 off 29 balls that involved two boundaries and four sixes.
Replying to 128/6 posted by Guyana Amazon Warriors in 20 overs, Tallawahs opened the innings and were very unfortunate witnessing four top-orders devastation for just 2 in 1.1 overs.
Andre Russell showed a bit patient staying with Shakib in the 5th wicket for 43 in 3.5 overs that led the team total to a consolation figure of 45/5 in 5 overs.
After Russell, the Bangladesh’s iconic all-rounder Shakib, who was adjudged man of the match, continued his composures with Gayle and rocked on in a style till the end to reach 132/5 in15.5 overs.
Sohail Tanvir bagged two wickets for 14 while Veerasammy Permaul and T20 debut Ali Khan took one wicket each for 27 and 49 runs.
Earlier, sent in to bat first, Guyana Amazon Warriors collected 128/6 in 20 overs spurred by number-4 batsman Jason Mohammed unbeaten 46 off 51, involving one boundary and two sixes.
Chris Lynn was another notable scorer with 33 off 18, including five boundaries and one six. Sohail Tanvir added unbeaten 15 while opener Dwayne Smith 11.
Imad Wasim and Dale Steyn bagged two wickets for the side conceding 12 and 31 runs respectively.
After the day’s rescued win, Tallawahs collected seven points from five matches with three wins, one loss and one no result.
