Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has banned Shakib Al Hasan for making improper gesture during the second match against Sri Lanka. The board in a media release on Friday said an inquiry found him guilty of making an inappropriate gesture on live television on Thursday in Dhaka. After a review, the board fined him Tk 300,000 and suspended the all-rounder from the next three One Day International (ODI) matches as per the provisions under the BCB’s Code of Conduct, the release said. It said Shakib had appeared at a disciplinary hearing on Friday, admitted the offence and accepted responsibility for the act. In the match which Bangladesh lost by 61 runs leading to the series loss, he threw his wicket away trying to hammer one over the ropes. The camera caught him making a gesture in the dressing room after watching the live telecast of the replay of his dismissal. The camera panned away almost instantly but the incident spread on the social media sparing a wave of criticism. BCB Acting Chief Executive Officer Nizam Uddin Chowdhury said, “Shakib was repentant for the incident and readily accepted that the behaviour was unbecoming of a player of his experience and stature. We also reminded him that his action was unacceptable.” He will now miss the last match in the ODI series and in a blow to Bangladesh’s chances, the first two games in the Asia Cup. – bdnews24.com
