State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam had a meeting with the top executives of TURK EXIM Bank in Ankara and discussed ways and means to utilize a US$ 300 million annual Line of Credit.
The government is going to borrow US$ 300 million under suppliers’ credit, as line of credit (LoC) from Turkey, to implement different public private partnership (PPP) projects.
The credit would be utilized by the private sector ventures in Bangladesh, said a Foreign Ministry media release on Friday.
The State Minister, during the meeting held on Wednesday, emphasized that the credit line could be used for infrastructure projects in Bangladesh as well as for financing Turkish exports to the country.
He also requested the EXIM Bank to reduce the rate of interest on the credit line.
Shahriar invited potential Turkish investors to take advantage of the favourable business environment in Bangladesh.
Agreeing with the suggestion, TURK EXIM Bank officials informed that they would send a high-level delegation to Bangladesh in October this year for further discussion and find the means for early utilization of the credit line.
The State Minister also held a meeting with the President of the Ankara Chamber of Commerce, Salih Bezci.
They both agreed to strengthen further trade cooperation between Bangladesh and Turkey.
The bilateral trade between the two countries now stands at US$ 1.2 billion, hugely in favour of Bangladesh.
Shahriar also briefed the Ankara Chamber of Commerce about the most favourable foreign direct investment regime in Bangladesh and invited its members to take full advantage the facilities.
