Photographer Shahidul Alam has expressed his concern at the campaign made by the banned Islamist outfit Hizbut Tahrir urging the authorities to drop a case filed against him.
‘I feel insecure at the campaign made by the Hizbut Tahrir citing his fake link with the banned organisation of the country. I think that necessary legal steps should be taken by the law enforcement agencies through a fair investigation. The renowned photographer said it in a statement on Wednesday.
The country’s famous photographer said that by
linking him with the banned organisation Hizbut Tahrir, an attempt is being made to implicate him in their subversive and illegal activities. ‘Such initiative undermines my personal, professional and socio-cultural stand. I also fear that such linkage with subversive and illegal activities will be damaging and could be potentially life threatening,’ he said.
Shahidul said that he came to know from online news portals that posters demanded that the case against him should be dropped, and is currently being propagated allegedly with the help of Al Qaeda.
‘I have further come to know that two such posters attributed to Hizbut Tahrir, have been seen on walls on Road 7 Gulshan, Dhaka. I have absolutely no connection with either Hizbut Tahrir or Al Qaeda in any form. I have had no previous dealings with these two organisations, nor did I welcome them,’ said Shahidul.
‘It is with this concern and fear of physical insecurity, I went to Dhanmondi police station on December 23 to lodge a general diary,’ he said. The police informed him that they would forward his application to the Cyber Crime Unit for investigation.
