A Dhaka court on Tuesday sent Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Saidur Rahman alias Shahid Commissioner to jail after he was produced to the court on completion of 5-day remand.
City’s Gandaria Police Station SI and Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, Atiqur Rahman produced Shahid Commissioner to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka with a fresh remand prayer of five days. Shahid’s lawyer sought bail to the court. Magistrate Md Hasibul Haque rejected remand pleas of the IO and also the bail petition, submitted on behalf of Saidur Rahman Shahid after hearing.
A team of RAB-10 raided the house of Shahid Commissioner and arrested him at about 3 am on February 4. The elite force members also seized three foreign-made pistols, three magazines and 62 rounds of bullets from his possession. Saidur Rahman Shahid, was a councilor of Ward-38 at Dhaka City Corporation (DCC), went into hiding since he was freed on bail from Faridpur jail.
He had contested in the 10th general election as an independent candiate in Dhaka-6 constituency. But, Jatiya Party leader Kazi Firoj Rashid defeated him in the poll.
Shahid was sentenced to death on May 29 in 2003 on the charge of shooting to dead advocate Habibur Rahman Mandal at Chandra Mohan Basak Lane of Banogram in the old Dhaka on August 29 in 2000. Shahid is also accused in the killing of Ward No. 90 Commissioner Shahadat Hossain Sikder on September 29 in 2003 and Juba Dal leader Sujan murder in Sutrapur on May 4, 1999.
