Shaheed Dr Milon Day was observed on Friday commemorating the 30th martyrdom anniversary of Dr Shamsul Alam Khan Milon, the then joint secretary general of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA).
Marking the day, Awami League, other political parties, social and cultural organizations placed wreaths at the grave of Dr Milon on the premises of Dhaka Medical College (DMC).
Discussion, special prayers and offering of fateha were also held
marking the martyrdom anniversary of Dr Milon.
AL leaders and workers paid homage by placing wreath at the grave of Dr Milon.
Awami League Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Cultural Affairs Secretary Asim Kumar Ukil, Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, Population Affairs Secretary Dr Rokeya Sultana, Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua and AL Central Working Committee Member Dr Mustafa Jalal Mohiuddin were present on the occasion, among others.
Family members of Dr Milon, BNP, Workers Party, Jatiya Samjtantrik Dal, Communist Party, Awami Jubo League, Awami Swechchhasebak League, Bangladesh Chhatra League, Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad, Bangladesh Medical Association, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University and Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote paid tributes to Dr Milon by placing wreaths at his grave.
Besides, different political parties, associate bodies and professional bodies placed wreaths at Milon Smriti Chattar on the premises of Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) of Dhaka University.
Dr Milon, who was also a lecturer of Dhaka Medical College (DMC), was killed by the goons of military junta near the TSC at the height of anti-autocracy movement on this day in 1990.
The supreme sacrifice of Dr Milon transformed the anti-autocracy movement in 1990s into a mass upsurge that prompted the fall of the then autocratic regime paving the way for restoration of democracy in the country.
