Shaheed Dr Milon Day was observed in the country on Tuesday commemorating the 28th anniversary of his martyrdom.
Dr Shamsul Alam Khan Milon, the then Joint Secretary General of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) and also a teacher of Dhaka Medical College (DMC), was killed on this day in 1990 by the goons of the military junta near the Teacher-Students’ Center (TSC) of Dhaka University at the height of anti-autocracy movement.
To mark the day, different political, social and cultural organizations placed floral wreaths on the grave of Milon on Dhaka Medical College premises in the morning. The programme also included discussion and offering fateha and special munjat.
On behalf of the Awami League (AL), floral tribute was paid at the grave. AL’s Joint General Secretary Abdur Rahman, its Science and Technology Secretary Abdus Sabur, Agriculture and Cooperatives Secretary Faridunnahar Laily, Education and Human Resource Affairs Secretary Shamsunnahar Champa, Information and Research Secretary Afzal Hossain, Deputy Office Secretary Biplob Barua, party Central Committee member SM Kamal Hossen and Anwar Hossen, and Dhaka City South AL’s General Secretary Shah-e Alam Murad, among others, were present.
