Shaheed Abdur Rab Serniabat Stadium (SARSS) of Barishal is set to prepare to stage the four-dayer cricket match between hosts Bangladesh Under-19 Cricket team and Sri Lanka Under-19 Cricket team scheduled to be held from October 26. SARSS was built on the bank of the Kirtonkhola River in 1966. After making the stadium, the local matches have been holding but no international match was held in the big bowl. In the year of 2006, SARSS was modernized. The authority spent Taka 23 crore and 15 lakh to up to date the stadium. This is for the first time SARSS is going to stage an international match. So, players, organizers and the cricket lovers of Barishal are highly delighted on the eve of the match.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Under-19 Cricket team and Sri Lanka Under-19 Cricket team arrived in Barishal on October 23.
SARSS has three pitches, dressing rooms, match officials room, VIP gallery, five storied pavilion modern press box and floodlights. The spectators’ capacity of the big bowl is 30 thousand.
Office Secretary of Barishal District Sports Association Md Mainul Islam talked to this Reporter. He said, “The infrastructure of SARSS is international standard. But the big bowl had not that kind of facilities. Marking the upcoming match, we built two dressing rooms, two rooms for match officials, one room for umpires and scorers and an air-conditioned press box, which is international standard.”
President of Barishal District Sports Association and DC of Barishal SM Ajior Rahman said, ” The security system of the arena is up to the mark. We have arranged the standard security system for the players.”
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Director Alamgir Khan said, ” ICC has given support to stage the match. BCB officials are monitoring all the development of the stadium. The engineers and the technical staffs of BCB regularly supervise all the development works of the stadium.”
