Bollywood films have time and again faced backlash for hurting religious sentiments, even if unintentionally.
Coming under the radar this time is Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero, against which a petition has been filed in the Bombay High Court. Majinder S Sirsa, a member of the Legislative Assembly, Delhi and the National spokesperson for Shiromani Akali Dal, brought it to notice that in one Zero poster, SRK is standing in the middle of the road in a vest and shorts, wearing a garland of 500 rupee notes and holding a kirpan in his hand.
Sirsa quoted, “Shame on #ShahrukhKhan on devaluing Sikh Kakaar and hurting Sikh sentiments by showing Kirpaan as a show-off ordinary dagger Kirpaan can only be worn by a #Khalsa – a pure Human being.
I demand Shahrukh Khan & Zero film producer Gauri Khan to immediately withdraw this poster #Zero We would be forced to take legal action against Zero film team if this poster and promotion is not withdrawn Zero The Film”
A petition has been filed by the group to remove the poster with immediate effect and deleting the particular scene from the film as well. A hearing will be held on this matter in the court on November 19.
