Third Karnaphuli bridge popularly known as Shah Amanat Bridge was the outcome of the long felt demand of the south Chittagong . This bridge is opened for public thoroughfare for the last 6 six years . Despite opening of the expensive bridge since 6 years, no weight measuring scale was installed on both side of the bridge entry point . As a result the heavy weight transport trucks, covered vans are using the bridge taking excess load regulating during night time, different users sources said. Mentionable that the bridge was constructed at a cost of Tk.380crores .The bridge opened for public transports on September,2010. The engineering experts of the bridge construction observed following the carrying of excess loaded transport trucks , the bridge may face unwanted incidents at any moment and the concerned authority should install weight control machine on entry point of the bridge to avoid any fatal incident or to sustain the longevity of the bridge .
On the other hand , due to excess load beyond road capacity on Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar Highway, the road is being damaged very shortly after renovations and govt is incurring crores of taka for repairing and renovations of the raod in every year. Architectural head of CUET Engr. Nazmul Latif told that installation of weight control machine is must to avoid the any fatal incidents and to save the developed tourism prospect of Cox’s Bazar and Teknaf.
