Senior journalist Shafik Rehman was released from Kashimpur prison on Tuesday noon. He secured interim bail from the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on August 31.
The ex-Editor of the Bangla Daily Jaijaidin, walked out of the Kashimpur Central Jail in Gazipur around 1:00 pm. His wife Taleya Rahman, and other relatives received him at the jail gate.
Shafik Rehman was later admitted to BIRDEM hospital for treatment of his diabetes and cardiac diseases, Taleya Rahman said.
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has granted bail to Shafik Rehman for three months or until submission of charge sheet in a case of ‘plotting to abduct and kill Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy in the United States.’
Shafik Rehman was arrested on April 16 this year from his residence in the capital’s Eskaton.
