The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday asked veteran journalist Shafik Rehman to appear in the Metropolitan Magistrate Court for bail in a case filed on charge of alleged attempt to kidnap and kill the Prime Minister’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy.
The apex court also directed the lower court to consider the bail to journalist Shafik Rehman if he appears in the court.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by
Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order after hearing a petition filed by Shafik Rehman seeking extension of the SC order that granted him bail in the case.
On August 31 the Supreme Court granted bail to Shafik Rehman for three months or till submission of the police report in the case.
The deadline expired on November 30, his lawyer M Asaduzzaman told the reporters. He also said that Shafik Rehman would surrender to the lower court on December 14 and he would remain on bail till then as per the SC order.
The Supreme Court on August 31 granted bail to journalist Shafik Rehman for three months.
Before on June 7, the High Court rejected Shafik Rehman’s bail petition in the same case.
He was arrested on April 16 from his residence.
