Legendary film actress Shabnam is going to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award for her outstanding contributions in the country’s film industry.
She will get the award at a function, which will be organised by Bangladesh Binodon Sangbadik Samity (BABISHAS) on March 20 at Mirpur Indoor Stadium, President of BABISHAS Abul Hossain Mazumder said this yesterday.
Speaker of the National Parliament Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury will be present as chief guest in the programme and will handed over the award to Shabnam, he said.
While sharing her feelings to get the Lifetime Achievement Award Shabnam told this correspondent, “I am grateful to BABISHAS to show honor me. When I was informed the matter I became really glad. Now I have become older. In fact, I can’t attend many programmes. Everybody pray for me as I can remain well.”
Shabnam last performed in Kazi Hayat’s directed a film titled Aammajaan in 1998.
Hailed from Madanmohan Boshak Lane of old Dhaka Shabnam debuted her film career by Capt Ehtesham’s directed a film titled E Desh Tomar Aamar.
She acted in a small role in Fateh Lohani’s Achhia. Shabnam first acted in role of heroine in Mostafiz’s directed a film titled Harano Din. Rahman performed against her in the film. Later becoming regular performer in Pakistani films including Chanda, Talash, Chahat, etc Rahman was her hero in all the films.
In Pakistan, Samandar was Shabnam’s acted first film where Wahid Murad was hero in the film.
She got Nigar Award, highest honor of Pakistan film industry, to perform in film Chanda in category of Side Actress. In 1965, as a heroine she first got the award to perform in film Talash.
Later she got the award for Dosti in 1971; Anmol in 1973; Dil Lagi in 1974; Zeenat in 1975; Ayna in 1977; Pakeeza in 1979; Hamdono in 1980; Qurbani in 1981; Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna in 1983 and Naraz in 1985.
