Chittagong Bureau :The port city Chittagong facing utter gas crisis for the last two days . Power plants, industrial sector as well domestic consumers are the worst sufferers of gas. A reliable sources said following the shutdown of gas supply from Bibiyana gas field of Habigonj, this situation arises. Beside, the industrial sector in the port city, about 163 comprising large and small are hampered in power generation. The business community and the entrepreneurs expressed concerned over the disruptions of gas supply. Specifically the gas based industries and the power plants are the most sufferers sources said. A sources of Karnaphuli gas Distribution company ltd told the New Nation that the total demand of gas in the port city including domestic consumers is 480m cft whereas company can supply 250 m cft . On Sunday, KGDCL supplied only 228 m cft gas in Chittagong which gradually decrease up to 181 mcft. Following the disruptions of gas supply, one unit of Raozan Thermal Power Plant and 150 Megawatt Sikalbaha power plant remained shut down . Gas filling stations could not supply gas to vehicles as per requirement due to low pressure of gas. A long queue of CNG taxis, tempos seen stranded in front of gas filling stations in the city. There are 62 gas filling stations and 3.70 lakh domestic consumers in the port city. Gulzer Begum, a housewife of Chowkbazar told this reporter that she could not cook foods timely for the last two days. She said on Sunday gas was not available in line from 10 am till 7 pm and same scenario also witnessed yesterday morning.
