Seven villages brought under electrification in Gaibandha

Seven villages under Shaghata and Fulchhari upazilas of the district were brought under rural electrification network by Gaibandha Palli Biddyut Samity (GPBS) on Monday.
A simple ceremony was also held on the premises of Bhangamour Government Primary School under Shaghata upazila with president of the samity Abdul Aziz Mondal in the chair.
Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad and local lawmaker Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah addressed the function as the chief guest and upazila parishad chairman AHM Golam Shahid Ranju was present as the special guest.
The function was also addressed, among others, by general manager of GPBS Arif Ahmed and former president of the samity M. Shamsuzzoha Bablu.
Speaking on the occasion, deputy speaker Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah said past BNP-Jamaat alliance government was fully responsible for creating power crisis in the country as it did not work properly in this sector.
The present government, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, after assuming power in 2009 took initiatives to solve the country’s power problem through setting up new power plants, he also said.
By 2021, all the villages would be brought under rural electrification programme, Rabbi added.
Later, he inaugurated the electrification programme at Amdirpara, Matharpara, Bhangamour, Tepa Madumsahar and Mandura villages of Shaghata upazila and Salua and Bhangabari villages of Fulchhari upazila by pressing a switch as the chief guest.
Besides, the deputy speakers laid the foundation stone of Electrical Sub-Station at Kalirbazaar of Fulchhari upazila and also formally inaugurated a complain centre of the samity at Shaghata upazila town.
A large number of people including the officials of GPBS, public representatives, social workers, political leaders and local elite were present on the occasion.
Mohila Parishad distributes blankets among 500 poor
Local Mohila Parishad unit distributed blankets among the 500 distressed people of Sadar and Fulchhari upazilas on Sunday.
Intensity of cold wave suddenly increased last couples of day in the district creating untold sufferings to the poor.
To mitigate the sufferings and woes of the cold hit people, Mohila Parishad stood beside them to disburse blankets as part of its corporate social responsibility.
Some 500 pieces of blankets were distributed among the cold affected people of the upazilas.
Amatur Nur Chhara, chairman of Mohila Parishad, district unit, handed over blankets to the cold hit people.
General secretary Riktu Prasad, Gaibandha Poura councilor Nazma Shawkat, and other members of the parishad were present on the occasion.
