Seven killed in road accidents

At least seven more persons were killed and several others critically injured in separate road accidents in the country on Saturday.
Of them, three died in Sunamganj, two in Cumilla, one in Rajshahi and another in Chuadanga district.
In Sunamganj, three persons met a tragic death and three others were critically injured after a head-on collision between a truck and an auto-rickshaw at Govindaganj town in Chhatak upazila.
The accident took place at 3 pm on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Mozammel Haque, 60, from Mullickpur under Chhatak municipal town, and Shamsul Islam, 45, from Govindaganj. The other one could not be identified yet.
Roni Miah , Sub-Inspector of Joykolos Highway Police told the news media that out of the six injured, three died at Osmani Medical College in Sylhet, while the rest are receiving treatment there.
In Cumilla, two more workers of a jute mill died and two others got critically injured after being crushed by a covered van in Chandina upazila of Cumilla on Saturday.
The accident occurred, around 12 pm, at Harikhola bus stand on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway.
The deceased could not be identified instantly.
Mahfuz Alam, Sub-Inspector of Iliotganj Police Outpost, confirmed the news to media that the bodies of deceased were recovered while the injured were sent to Cumilla Medical College Hospital for primary treatment.
In Rajshahi, a man was killed and two others were seriously injured in a road crash at Godagari upazila of Rajshahi district on Saturday morning.
Deceased Nasim, 25, was a resident of Chapainawabganj district, said Godagari Model Police Station Officer In-Charge Jahangir Alam.
The OC said that a bus of National Travels overturned in front of Kadirpur Government Primary School and fell into a roadside ditch around 6:00am, leaving the man dead on the spot and two others injured.
In Chuadanga, a three-year-old child named Jannatul Khatun died at Chakadanga Sadar Upazila’s Alamshadur in Chuadanga district.
The accident took place on the Chuadanga-Jhenaidah highway in Subdia, Padmabila union on Saturday morning.
Says local source that Jannatul came to visit Sohbar Hossain’s house in Kacharipara of Subdia village with her mother Firoza Begum on Monday.
Sarojganj Police Outpost Inspector (SI) Sheikh Mahbub Hossain said that the child was playing with other children around 10am on the highway. At one stage, when he crossed the road, Bhattavati hit her and she died on the spot.
