Autopsies were performed on the bodies of former general secretary of Motijheel Thana Awami League Zahidul Islam Tipu and student Samia Afran Preeti, who were shot dead by masked assailants in the capital’s Shahjahanpur area on Thursday night.
Doctors from the forensic department of Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Hospital conducted the autopsies on Friday noon. Later, the two bodies were handed over to the relatives according to the rules.
Multiple bullet marks were found in the Tipu’s body and seven bullets were recovered from his body during the autopsy.
Besides, one bullet hit Badrunnesa College student Preeti (22) who was shot dead in the same incident.
Tipu, 54, had received death threat four to five days before he was murdered last night, his wife claimed on Friday.
An unknown person had threatened him over the phone, Abul Hossain, Assistant Sub-Inspector of Shahjahanpur Police Station, said quoting the case statement filed by Tipu’s wife Farhana Islam Dolly.
She filed the murder case on Friday morning with the police station, accusing unnamed persons.
Dolly, a Councilor of reserved Ward-4 of DSCC, also mentioned that her husband had political rivalry with several persons when he was a leader of MotijheelAwami League.
According to media reports, the microbus carrying Tipu was stuck in a traffic jam at Shahjahanpur. Two masked (some say helmet wearing) miscreants arrived from the other side of the road and started shooting at Tipu’s microbus. Several bullets went through the window and wounded him. The driver, Munna, also sustained bullet wounds.
The miscreants continued firing shots till they fled the scene through the road divider.
Some of the witnesses said that the shooters fled on a motorcycle which was kept on the opposite side of the road.
After the assailants fled, people saw a young girl, Preeti, lying on the road. Locals took the three injured to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
But doctors declared Tipu and Preeti dead.
DMCH’s emergency department physician DrMdAlauddin said Tipu and Prity were brought dead. Munna was admitted to the hospital.
Police said that Tipu was an accused in the murder of Jubo League leader Riyazul Haque Milky. He was arrested and prisoned for a lengthy period. Later he got bail.
Milky, who was Dhaka South Metropolitan Jubo League unit’s organising secretary, was shot dead in front of the Shoppers World shopping mall in Gulshan on 19 July 2013.
Tipu lived in the Bagicha area of Khilgaon. He was in a dispute with a group of Awami League members about setting up illegal shops on the footpath and exerting power in the Motijheel area, said several party members.
Police, however, have made no comments about the motive behind his murder. The Police officials, believe it was a planned murder.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Deputy Commissioner (Motijheel Zone) M. A. Ahad said that they were confirmed that a person wearing a helmet fired the shots.
Meanwhile, a Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Dhaka on Friday set May 23 for submitting report on investigation in a case lodged over the murder of former general secretary of MatijheelAwami League Zahidul Islam Tipu.
Metropolitan magistrate Mohammad Nurul Huda Chowdhury set the date after accepting the first information report filed with the case, reports BSS.
Where is justice?
‘Where shall I seek justice? Allah only exercise justice,’ said weeping Zamal Uddin, father of Samia Afrin Prity, who was also shot dead in the capital`s Shajahanpur Amtola Mosque area on Thursday night.
‘Now there is hardly any justice in the world.’ Bemoaning Jamal Uddin said this in front of the morgue of Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Hospital around 2.00 pm on Friday.
‘The incident that happened to my daughter was unintentional. The target was one but died two. It might be my daughter`s destiny. No parent wants their`s child death like this,’he added.
Jamal Uddin said, “There is hardly any benefit in seeking justice. We are innocent people and used to lead a normal life. We are freedom fighters’ descendent. There is nothing to seek but justice. What should I want from people? May Allah save the people from disquiet.”
