At least 14 people were injured on Saturday as miscreants exploded crude bombs targeting the ruling Awami League’s processions in city’s Karwan Bazar, Shikkha Bhaban, Shahbagh, Shantinagar, Fakirerpool, Banani and Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) areas.
Despite tight security, a series of crude bombs were exploded at the entry point of the underpass at Karwan Bazar as soon as the Prime Minister’s motorcade passed the area at about 3:00pm.
 “At least four crude bombs were exploded just after one minute the PM’s motorcade crossed over the underpass at Karwan Bazar. Assistant Sub-Inspector Mahbub who was on duty received injuries,” an official of Tejgaon Police Station said, adding the PM was going to attend a rally at Suhrawardy Uddyan.
He added when the PM’s motorcade was crossing the Shahbagh area, the crude bombs were also exploded creating panic among the pedestrians, passengers and law enforcers. At least 10 AL activists were injured when the miscreants hurled four crude bombs targeting a procession in front of Shikkha Bhaban at about 4:00pm.
The AL workers who were in the procession caught three suspected miscreants and gave them good beating. The injured workers and three suspects were admitted to DMCH.
Talking to The New Nation, Anwarul Haque, Sub-Inspector of Shahbagh Police Station, said when the AL leaders and workers in a procession from Rampura were marching towards Suhrawardy Uddyan, it came under crude bomb attack in front of Shikkha Bhaban.
At the same time a suspected miscreant identified as Hassan exploded crude bomb near Shahbagh crossing and tried to escape the scene but he was caught red handed by the locals.
At least three people were injured when two crude bombs were exploded near Shahbagh crossing.
The locals beat him up indiscriminately. The on-duty police rushed to the spot and rescued him from the agitating mob and sent him to DMCH in a critical condition.
Besides, two suspected miscreants were arrested when they were trying to escape after exploding crude bombs at Road No 18 in Banani area.
Mominul Islam, a rickshaw-puller, sustained injuries from splinters when a crude bomb was exploded at Shantinagar, while another rickshaw-puller Ekhlas, 35, was injured in a crude bomb explosion at Fakirerpool.
Sohagh, 25, and Moinuddin, 25, were injured when a crude bomb went off near the gate-2 of the DMCH.
Besides, a DMCH female physician received injuries when miscreants exploded at least three crude bombs near Central Shaheed Minar. The physician has been identified as Prabha. She is now undergoing treatment at the hospital, a police official said.
