Experts at a training workshop have stressed for proper separation and preservation of animal hides to ensure better quality and excellent price of the valuable export item both at local and international markets.
They were addressing the daylong workshop organised at Police Line Community Centre here on Tuesday on ‘Reducing Lace-cut and Proper Preservation of Raw Animal Hides’ for the hides and skin traders, animal slaughterers and other concerned people.
Bangladesh Tanners’ Association (BTA), Bangladesh Economic Growth Programme (BEGP) and Leather Sector Business Promotion Council (LSBPC) of the Ministry of Commerce jointly organised the training workshop.
Chief Executive Officer of BTA of the Ministry of Commerce Mizanur Rahman presided over the training workshop participated by 100 persons including leaders of District Skin Traders’ Association (DSTA), skin traders, Imams and Madrasa teachers of the district.
President of Rangpur District Skin Traders’ Association Alhaj Abdul Latif Khan attended and addressed the programme as the chief guest.
Programme Assistant of the LSBPC of the Ministry of Commerce Litan Chandra Roy and General Secretary of Rangpur District Skin Traders’ Association Alhaj Azgar Ali addressed the training workshop as the special guests.
Lecturer of the Department of Leather Engineering & Technology of Dhaka University Noor Mohammad delivered the keynote presentation and conducted the daylong training workshop as the main resource person.
The speakers discussed proper ways of slaughtering animals, separation of hides, various parts of hides and quality, defects in slaughtering of animals and separation of hides, impacts of various steps in less cuts and curing of animal hides, techniques for containing its quality and provided necessary trainings.
They called upon the participants for ensuring proper slaughtering of sacrificial animals, adoption of appropriate techniques for separating and preservation of hides to maintain quality for enhancing exports to earn more foreign exchange for the nation.
At the, a documentary film on proper processing of the animal skins and hides was screened to educate the participants on the whole process of slaughtering and techniques for processing the same to ensure the best quality.
