The government is set to turn the existing Disabled Development Foundation into a ‘Department for Development of the Disabled Persons’ under the Ministry of Social Welfare.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina informed this in the parliament during PM’s question answer session in the House on Wednesday.
Sheikh Hasina said the process for setting the department now remains at the final stage. The department would coordinate and monitor the activities relating to disabled persons, she said.
Replying to a question from M Abdullah (Laksmipur-4), the Prime Minister said the government has so far opened 73 centers in 64 districts and different upazilas for providing services and support to disabled persons.
Thirty more service centers would be opened during this
fiscal with the financial support of the World Bank, she said.
