Social Welfare Minister Rashed Khan Menon on Friday promised to take initiatives to ensure separate accommodation facilities for transgender people to fulfill their demand. “I hope one day they will be able to get elected for national parliament as well. Bangladesh is doing wonders in every sector. Our per capita income is now USD 1,752. GDP growth rate now is 7.65 percent. With so much success, we cannot let some of our brothers and sisters to live neglected,” he said. The minister said these while talking to transgender community leaders at his government residence.
The transgender leaders drew Menon’s attention towards different problems they are facing in everyday life like succession act, obstacles in holding funerals for their dead ones and admitting children in public schools.
