Sensitive activities to promote nutrition standard stressed

Speakers at a function underscored the need for speeding up the sensitive activities to promote the nutrition standard in the district through active participation and coordination.
In this context, all the concerned should be more cordial, dedicated and would have to come forward with the mentality to ensure nutrition for all particularly the poor to build a healthy nation, they opined.
The opinion came at a District Nutrition Coordination Meeting organized by civil surgeon (CS) office at his conference room of the town here recently with the financial support of Children’s Investment Fund, European Union Humanitarian and Civil Protection and Unicef.
The overall objective of the meeting was to establish a coordination forum for nutrition at district level with partners working in health and relevant sectors.
With CS Dr. Nirmalendu Chowdhury in the chair, the meeting was also addressed, among others, by superintendent of Gaibandha Modern Hospital Bidhan Chandra Majumder, Deputy Director of department of agriculture extension AKM Ruhul Amin, executive engineer of DPHE M. Amirul Islam Chowdhury, district nutrition support officer of Unicef Mohammad Kamruzzaman, field coordinator of CIP Bangladesh Enamul Haque, and journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman.
An emphasis should be given to provide nutrition food to the pregnant and lactating mothers and the breast milk would be fed to the children six months at a stretch after their born, the speakers said.
To provide the nutrition food to all necessary measures would be taken to produce nutrition foods in field level at large scale through motivating the farmers; they said adding that much awareness would also be created to all about nutrition.
Earlier, deputy director of family planning department Dewan Morshed Kamal presented district nutrition profile through multi media projector and urged all to reduce the eating of carbohydrate food and increase the micro nutrient food to keep fit well.
